Getting started
Your first scan
Allow the camera
On first launch, grant camera access. EV Lens needs it to see the vehicle; analysis begins on your device.
Set your market
Allow “While Using” location so specs match your country — or pick your market manually if you prefer.
Frame & hold
Point at the front three-quarter view of a car and hold steady. You’ll get a powertrain badge, then the full profile.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does EV Lens cost anything?
No. EV Lens is completely free in this version — every feature is unlocked for everyone. There are no accounts, subscriptions or in-app purchases.
Why does EV Lens need my camera?
The camera is how the app identifies a vehicle. A first-stage detector runs on your device to locate the car, and only a selected, cropped still is used for recognition — never a continuous video feed.
Do I have to share my location?
No. Location (used only while the app is open) lets EV Lens show the right specifications for your market. If you decline, you can choose your market manually. Your device resolves location to a country code — the backend doesn’t need your exact coordinates.
What do the ICE / HEV / PHEV / BEV badges mean?
They classify the powertrain: ICE internal-combustion, HEV hybrid, PHEV plug-in hybrid, BEV battery-electric. Fuel-cell and unrecognised powertrains are handled gracefully too.
How accurate is the data?
Vehicle data varies by model year, factory, country and configuration. EV Lens shows source context and a confidence level where available, and clearly marks modelled figures — such as the lifecycle CO₂ break-even — as models rather than universal facts. Found something off? Email data@evlens.de.
Is EV Lens available on Android?
Not yet — EV Lens is built for iPhone at launch. Want Android? Tell us at hello@evlens.de; it helps us prioritise.
Troubleshooting
If a scan isn’t working
Recognition keeps failing
Improve lighting, get the whole front or rear of the car in frame, and hold steady for a moment. Very rare, heavily modified or brand-new models may not be in the catalogue yet — these feed our discovery queue and get added over time.
Wrong market or currency
Check that location permission is “While Using”, or set your market manually. Specs, price and consumption are resolved per country, so the market setting matters.
App feels slow or crashes
Update to the latest version and restart the app. If it persists, email support@evlens.de with your device model and iOS version so we can reproduce it.
